Tulip Single Late. Mixed

Tulip Single Late. Mixed

Tulip Single Late varieties represent the grand finale of the tulip blooming season, typically flowering from late April through May, several weeks after their early spring counterparts.

These robust perennials are characterized by their substantial, cup-shaped blooms and sturdy stems that can reach heights of 18-30 inches, making them excellent choices for cut flower arrangements and dramatic garden displays.

The defining feature of Single Late tulips is their classic, elegant form.

Each stem produces a single, large flower with six broad petals that open wide in sunny conditions, creating a perfect cup shape.

The blooms often measuring 4-5 inches across when fully opened.

Popular cultivars include Queen of Night with its deep purple-black petals, the pristine white Maureen, and the striking yellow Golden Apeldoorn.

These tulips thrive in well-draining soil and full to partial sun exposure.

Their late blooming period makes them valuable for extending the tulip season and bridging the gap between spring bulbs and early summer perennials.

They’re particularly effective when planted in mass displays or integrated into mixed borders alongside late-blooming daffodils and emerging hosta.

Single Late tulips are generally more weather-resistant than earlier varieties, with sturdy stems that withstand spring winds and late-season temperature fluctuations.

Their extended blooming period, lasting 2-3 weeks under favourable conditions, provides excellent garden value.

For optimal performance, plant bulbs in autumn at depths of 6-8 inches, spacing them 4-6 inches apart.

Like most tulips, they benefit from cold winter temperatures for proper flower development.

After blooming, allow foliage to die back naturally to nourish the bulb for the following year’s display.

These tulips naturalize moderately well in suitable climates, though they may require periodic replanting every 3-5 years to maintain vigour.

Their impressive size, reliable performance, and season-ending timing make Single Late tulips indispensable for gardeners seeking to maximize their spring bulb impact.
