DICENTRA
spectabilis
A native of eastern Asia, Dicentra has collected many common names during its long history as a cottage garden plant. “Dutchmans Breeches”, “Bleeding Heart” and “Lady in the Bath” are only a few.
The pink heart shaped flowers with white tips dangle enticingly from the arching stems above the fern like foliage in late spring and early summer.
Dicentra spectabilis florishes in humus rich soil, in the dappled shade under tall shrubs and trees.
Although usually grown in shade it can do very well in a sunny spot providing the soil stays sufficiently damp.
Once planted Dicentra does not like to be disturbed.
Can grow to a height of 3ft. (1m).
Bleeding Heart is a very popular ornamental plant for flower gardens.
Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
All pictures used are of mature plants in full bloom and are for illustration purposes only, they may not reflect plants at all times of the year.
Our plants of Dicentra spectabilis are supplied ex. 9cm pots, they can be planted out immediately but better results may be obtained if they are grown on for a short time in a slightly larger container before transplanting to their final growing positions.

We ask all our buyers to remember Dicentra plants are living items and their appearance changes with the seasons. Please don’t panic if the plant you receive looks different to the image on the website. This is quite normal and not a matter for any worry or concern, it is likely to be in perfect condition for the time of year. Particularly in autumn and winter many shrubs will lose their leaves and look rather bare, gaunt and stick-like and from August onwards many perennial plants may not even be showing above the soil.
We want you to be happy with your purchase and all our Dicentra are checked and inspected visually before packing. In the unlikely event of a problem please advise us at sales@seedsplantsbulbs.com within 48hrs of delivery. You can also notify us by telephone at 02879111497 or 02879417038. Due to the nature of the product we cannot accept any responsibility for their failure after planting as pests, disease, poor horticultural practice, extremes of weather and many other factors outside our control all take their toll. Bleeding Heart will only be accepted for return after seller has been informed and given permission. Refunds will be issued after the plants are received back in a saleable condition within 14 days from original dispatch date. Buyer must pay all return charges except where an item has been shipped in error.
