PRIMULA vulgaris or Wild Primrose

Our native wildflower, Primula vulgaris or Wild Primrose is held in great affection by many people who regard it as the first true sign that spring has arrived.

The plant forms a dense rosette of large, crinkled, heavily veined, deep green leaves and from early March through to May the pale-yellow flowers which are often scented appear singly on pink stems in the centre of the rosette.

A hardy perennial, Primula vulgaris prefers a shady. sheltered site, but is able to withstand dry conditions and grows naturally in hedgerows and woodland glades.

Wild Primrose are at their best when planted en-masse and allowed to naturalise.

Large clumps benefit from being lifted and divided every two/three years and this is best done in wet weather after the plant has flowered.

Primula vulgaris also has many uses in traditional medicine.

Our Wild Primrose are dispatched as well grown jumbo plug plants which are best grown on in 9 or 10cm pot for a short time before transplanting to their final growing positions.

Please remember plant maintenance within our nursery is absolutely essential and means we need to prune back some items at certain times of the year to help maintain shape and encourage new growth.

We ask all our buyers to remember Wild Primrose or Primula vulgaris are living plants and their appearance changes with the seasons.  Please don’t panic if the plant you receive looks different to the image on the website. This is quite normal and not a matter for any worry or concern, it is likely to be in perfect condition for the time of year. Particularly in autumn and winter many shrubs will lose their leaves and look rather bare, gaunt and stick-like and from August onwards many perennial plants may not even be showing above the soil.

 We want you to be happy with your purchase and all our Wild Primrose plants are checked and inspected visually before packing. In the unlikely event of a problem please advise us  within 48hrs of delivery. Due to the nature of the goods we cannot accept any responsibility for their failure after planting as pests, disease, poor horticultural practice, extremes of weather and many other factors outside our control all take their toll. Primula vulgaris will only be accepted for return after seller has been informed and given permission for their return. Refunds will be issued after items are received back in a saleable condition within 14 days from original dispatch date. Buyer must pay all return charges except where an item has been shipped in error.
