Pea Charmette Seeds – Premium Dwarf Petit Pois Variety
Product Description
Pea Charmette is an exceptional dwarf Petit Pois variety that delivers outstanding performance in home gardens and allotments. This premium pea cultivar has earned its reputation as a gardener’s favorite, producing an impressive abundance of plump, well-filled pods throughout the growing season.
Outstanding Flavor and Harvest
Each generously filled pod contains up to 10 small, deliciously sweet-tasting peas that are perfect for fresh eating, freezing, or culinary use. The compact dwarf habit makes Pea Charmette an ideal choice for smaller gardens, raised beds, and container growing, while still delivering exceptional yields.
Easy Harvesting and Extended Cropping
The pods are positioned for easy visibility and picking, making harvest time a pleasure rather than a chore. Regular harvesting is key to maximizing your crop, as this encourages the plants to continue producing fresh pods, effectively extending your harvest season from July through September.
Growing Requirements and Soil Preparation for Pea Charmette
Like all pea varieties, Charmette thrives in a sheltered location with rich, moisture-retentive soil that contains plenty of organic matter. For optimal results, prepare your growing area by digging in well-rotted farmyard manure or quality garden compost during autumn. This advance preparation ensures your soil has the perfect structure and nutrient content for vigorous growth.
Successional Sowing for Continuous Harvests
Pea Charmette is perfectly suited for successional sowing, allowing you to enjoy fresh peas throughout the summer months. Sow seeds from April through July for harvests spanning July to September. Use cloches or fleece to protect early sowings from late spring frosts, ensuring your young plants get the best possible start.
Care and Maintenance
Maintain consistent soil moisture throughout the growing season, particularly during dry spells, to ensure pod development and prevent premature flowering. Protect your crop from bird damage using garden netting or traditional black cotton strung between stakes.
