Lobelia Sapphire Seeds – Stunning Trailing Blue Blooms for Hanging Baskets and Containers
Bring a splash of vibrant sapphire blue to your garden with Lobelia Sapphire, a long-time favourite among gardeners. This trailing annual is celebrated for its cascading growth habit and masses of delicate, vivid blue flowers, making it a perfect choice for hanging baskets, window boxes, and container gardens.
Compact and Profuse Blooms
Lobelia Sapphire produces small, lance-shaped green foliage, which is soon nearly hidden under a profusion of bright blue flowers. Each bloom features the classic two-lipped lobelia form with a distinctive white eye at the centre, creating an eye-catching contrast that will brighten any garden space. From late spring through autumn, this charming plant provides continuous colour and visual interest.
Perfect Size and Growing Conditions
Reaching a height of 4-6 inches with trailing stems extending 10-12 inches, Lobelia Sapphire thrives in partial shade to full sun. In hotter climates, it benefits from some afternoon shade to maintain optimal growth. This low-maintenance annual prefers consistently moist, well-draining soil, and regular deadheading will encourage long-lasting blooms throughout the season.
Easy Care and Garden-Friendly
Lobelia Sapphire is remarkably easy to grow and maintain. Monthly feeding with a balanced liquid fertilizer and mid-season trimming of leggy growth will promote bushier, healthier plants. This versatile plant also attracts butterflies and beneficial insects, supporting a vibrant and eco-friendly garden environment.
Ideal Companion Plantings
The striking sapphire blue flowers pair beautifully with white alyssum, yellow marigolds, or pink petunias, making it an excellent choice for mixed plantings in containers or garden beds. Its graceful trailing habit and cool-toned elegance enhance the overall aesthetic of summer gardens.
