Hypericum TRICOLOR
Often referred to as Variegated Rose of Sharon.
Small, low growing, mounded, semi-evergreen shrub with reddish slightly arching stems and variegated foliage.
The green leaves are flushed pink and edged in creamy white and Tricolor is evergreen in warm locations,
Masses of showy, star like, slightly fragrant, saucer-shaped, golden yellow flowers which can be up to 4cm across appear continually from July to October.
These blooms are produced on twiggy stems and contrast well with the colourful foliage.
Hypericum Tricolor flowers best in full sun, but will tolerate partial shade.
We recommend providing some protection from winter frosts and cold winds as it can die to the ground in a very cold winter however if it does die to the ground in winter, new shoots will quickly develop from the base in spring.
Can be grown as part of a shrub or mixed border or as a ground cover shrub when planted in groups but Tricolor is outstanding when planted en-mass.
This charming plant is easy to grow in almost any but extremely wet soil and seldom reaches more than 50cm tall.
Its small size makes this Hypericum an excellent choice for todays small gardens.
Keep it in shape by trimming immediately after flowering and feed with a general fertilizer annually.
Our Hypericum plants are supplied ex. 9cm pots, they can be planted out immediately but better results may be obtained if they are grown on for a short time in a slightly larger container before transplanting to their final growing positions.

Please remember plant maintenance is absolutely essential and means we need to prune back some items at certain times of the year to help maintain shape and encourage new growth.
We ask all our buyers to remember Hypericum are living items and their appearance changes with the seasons. Please don’t panic if the plant you receive looks different to the image on the website. This is quite normal and not a matter for any worry or concern, it is likely to be in perfect condition for the time of year. Particularly in autumn and winter many shrubs will lose their leaves and look rather bare, gaunt and stick-like and from August onwards many perennial plants may not even be showing above the soil.
