EUPHORBIA purpurea

Sometimes called Wood Spurge and occasionally Darlington’s Glade Spurge.

A compact, bushy, shade loving perennial with deep purple stems and strap-like purple leaves.

From April to June Euphorbia purpurea carries an abundance of lime green almost yellow flowers on slightly arching stems.

Long lasting and very eye-catching the blooms contrast beautifully with the dark coloured foliage.

Growing just 75cm tall it looks great at the front of a border where it can show off its wonderful foliage and Wood Spurge looks sensational when combined with spring flowering bulbs such as daffodils and used as ground-cover on a difficult, shaded or partially shaded site.

Superb as a container plant.

Fast growing, evergreen and fully hardy Euphorbia purpurea is unfussy about soil type but it must be well drained.

Self-seeds freely and will need keeping in check in small gardens.

It is recommended that you wear gloves when working with this Euphorbia as all parts of the plant are highly toxic if ingested and the milky sap is also a potential skin irritant.

Our Euphorbia plants are supplied ex. 10cm pots, they can be planted out immediately but better results may be obtained if they are grown on for a short time in a slightly larger container before transplanting to their final growing positions.

We ask all our buyers to remember Euphorbia plants are living items and their appearance changes with the seasons.  Please don’t panic if the plant you receive looks different to the image on the website. This is quite normal and not a matter for any worry or concern, it is likely to be in perfect condition for the time of year. Particularly in autumn and winter many shrubs will lose their leaves and look rather bare, gaunt and stick-like and from August onwards many perennial plants may not even be showing above the soil.

We want you to be happy with your purchase and all our Wood Spurge are checked and inspected visually before packing. Due to the nature of the goods we cannot accept any responsibility for their failure after planting as pests, disease, poor horticultural practice, extremes of weather and many other factors outside our control all take their toll. Euphorbia purpurea will only be accepted for return after seller has been informed and given permission. Refunds will be issued after items are received back in a saleable condition within 14 days from original dispatch date. Buyer must pay all return charges except where an item has been shipped in error.
