Convallaria majalis known almost universally as Lily of the Valley
First cultivated in the 1400’s, the ever popular, Lily-of-the-Valley is an excellent groundcover plant for moist, humus-rich areas of the garden, quickly spreading to form a fragrant carpet of pure white, bell-shaped flowers and long, dark green leaves.
Christians sometimes refer to Convallaria majalis as Our Lady’s Tears because, according to legend, the tears Mary shed at the cross turned into Lily of the Valley flowers.
Beautiful sweet smelling and believed by many to signify a return to happiness.
Lily of the Valley is traditionally associated with May-Day, especially in France.
The plant flourishes in full sun or partial shade, and the diminutive, bell-like flowers are an important part of many spring wedding bouquets.
If seeds of Convallaria majalis are ingested they may cause a mild stomach upset.
Divide and replant large clumps in September, and apply a generous mulch of composted leaf mould or peat around the base of the plant.
Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit.

We ask all our buyers to remember Lily of the Valley is a living item and its appearance changes with the seasons. Please don’t panic if the plant you receive looks different to the image on the website. This is quite normal and not a matter for any worry or concern, it is likely to be in perfect condition for the time of year. Particularly in autumn and winter many shrubs will lose their leaves and look rather bare, gaunt and stick-like and from August onwards many perennial plants may not even be showing above the soil.
We want you to be happy with your purchase and all our items are checked and inspected visually before packing. In the unlikely event of a problem please advise us within 48hrs of delivery. Due to the nature of the goods we cannot accept any responsibility for their failure after planting as pests, disease, poor horticultural practice, extremes of weather and many other factors outside our control all take their toll. Convallaria majalis will only be accepted for return after seller has been informed and given permission. Refunds will be issued after items are received back in a saleable condition within 14 days from original dispatch date. Buyer must pay all return charges except where an item has been shipped in error.
