Berberis Aurea.
Commonly known as Japanese Barberry or Golden Japanese Barberry.
A thorny, deciduous, compact, but very attractive shrub.
Aurea has an upright growth habit and is somewhat slow growing.
The rounded leaves open bright golden-yellow in spring but turn pale green as the mature in summer before changing once more to vibrant shades of red and orange in autumn before falling.
Inconspicuous yellow flowers tinged with red emerge in April and May and are followed by bright red or scarlet berries in autumn.
Growing only about 1m tall with a similar spread Aurea is great for adding a little height and colour to a border or if planted 80-90cm apart makes an outstanding and colourful low hedge.
It also makes an excellent specimen plant and is super for illuminating dull spots in the garden
Berberis Aurea is tolerant of most soils but needs good drainage and prefers a little dappled shade to keep it from scorching in hot sun.
All pictures used are of mature plants in bloom, they are for illustration purposes only and may not reflect the plant at all times of the year.

If you need a little help planting, Deco Bliss have a lovely video entitled HOW TO PLANT SHRUBS watch it via this link, we think it’s very useful.
We ask all our buyers to remember plants are living items and their appearance changes with the seasons. Please don’t panic if the plant you receive looks different to the image on the website. This is quite normal and not a matter for any worry or concern, it is likely to be in perfect condition for the time of year. Particularly in autumn and winter many shrubs will lose their leaves and look rather bare, gaunt and stick-like and from August onwards many perennial plants may not even be showing above the soil.
